What is C4C?
Challenge for Charity (C4C) is a non-profit organization started at Stanford University that now boasts chapters at nine top west coast MBA programs. The purpose of this organization is as simple as it is important: to develop future business leaders with a lifelong commitment to community involvement and social responsibility.
Challenge for Charity was founded by Stanford GSB students Duncan O’Brien and John Zoglin to honor Duncan's sister, a Special Olympics athlete. Originally imagined while on a run at the famed Stanford Dish, C4C has focused on few charities for maximum impact, contributing over $8 million to local charities and donating hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours in just the past 10 years.
The 2019–20 MBA Challenge for Charity enters its 36th year in which top west coast MBA programs will compete in fundraising, social, volunteer, and athletic events in pursuit of the coveted ‘Golden Briefcase.’
The Golden Briefcase is awarded to the school that achieves the highest score in the following categories:
All C4C chapters concentrate their time and effort on charitable organizations. Common to all schools is their work with Special Olympics, which was made the primary beneficiary of C4C when the organization was created. To help each chapter focus their efforts further, the additional charities are chosen by each school from the many worthwhile organizations found in their surrounding communities.
